6:05 a.m. – Main pipes going to water tower in east Harris County bust, cause flooding
HOUSTON – Be careful, drivers. The main pipes going to the water tower at E IH-10 and Sheldon Road have burst due to freezing and are flooding the roadway in the area, according to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.

5:20 a.m. – Hobby Airport closes its overpasses ‘until further notice’
Hobby Airport said, “As a precaution for motorist coming to HOU, the overpasses leading to the airport are closed until further notice. Use Airport Blvd. for access to the terminal. Don’t forget to check with your airline for flight status before coming to the airport.”

A strong arctic cold front brought a blast of bitterly cold air and a mix of wintry precipitation that has left some roads, especially west of greater Houston icy. A light wintry mix is along and off the coast this morning while the temperatures are below freezing in all reporting stations except Galveston. Care is advised for all road travel as some icy patches and bridges could be problematic.

10 p.m. – Drivers struggled on icy roads in the Cypress area
Those behind the wheel are encouraged to use feeder roads in our area to avoid icy overpasses and bridges on the freeway.

10 p.m. – Montgomery Co. officials use sand to battle slick road conditions
Drivers have reported icy roads in Montgomery County throughout the day Thursday. Some residents began using their own vehicles to help pull cars out of ditches after drivers hit patches of ice.
