Severe storms cut power to 6,414 customers Monday night, following record-breaking high temperatures in the region.

A severe thunderstorm warning was in effect for most of the region Monday night. By 8:30 p.m. there were multiple reports of strong winds blowing down trees and power lines in the Lehigh Valley.

PPL reported 1,552 customers without power in Lehigh County and 2,070 without power in Northampton County. Met-Ed had 254 customers out in Lehigh and 1,759 out in Northampton.

A wind advisory was also in effect through early Tuesday. Southwest winds were predicted at 20-30 mph, with gusts of 40-50 mph expected to shift northwest Monday evening.

The temperature reached a record high of 72 degrees recorded at 2 p.m. at the airport, surpassing the previous record of 70 degrees on March 7, 2009.
