Shakira’s Teal Reverse Cat Eye Revived My Love For the Experimental Trend

This isn’t the first time Shakira has taken aim at Gerard via song. After the couple announced their split last June, Shakira released the song “BZRP Music Sessions #53” with DJ Bizarrap last month, which includes lyrics like, “You left me the in-laws as my neighbors, media outlets at my door, and in debt with the Treasury” and “I wish you the best with my supposed replacement.”

Shakira got deeply personal about her separation from Gerard Piqué in her new song, “TGQ.”

In the lyrics to the song off Karol G’s new album Mañana Será Bonito, which were translated into English by Billboard, the Colombian pop star revealed she was “hurt” by Piqué’s highly publicized relationship with girlfriend Clara Chia. “Seeing you with the new girl hurt me, but I’m now set on me,” she sang in her first verse, adding that her “life got better” without him and that he’s “no longer welcome here.”

The verse continued, “And what your girlfriend [threw] at me, that doesn’t anger me, it makes me laugh.”

Shakira, 46, and Piqué, 36, were together for 11 years before announcing their split in June 2022. “We regret to confirm that we are separating,” the exes wrote in a joint statement at the time, per People. “We ask for privacy at this moment for the well-being of our children, who are our maximum priority. Thank you in advance for your understanding and respect.” The exes share two sons: Milan, 10, and Sasha, 8.

The soccer player has been linked to his 23-year-old girlfriend since August 2022, just two months after his split from Shakira. “Everything is so raw and new,” the singer told Elle in September. “I can only say that I put everything I had into this relationship and my family.”

Colombian singers Karol G and Shakira came together to film their music video for “TQG,” which dropped on February 23, to the delight of their millions of fans. Karol G’s signature fiery red hair was gorgeous per usual and brightened our screens. Our eyes were also locked on Shakira’s colorful eye makeup, particularly her blue take on the reverse cat-eye trend.

Her experimental liner was the perfect companion to her shiny blue dress and was the only bright color in this makeup look, making it stand out even further. Her lips were coated with a matte nude-pink hue that let her vivid eye makeup take center stage. We’re sure that her high ponytail would get praise from the official Ponytail Queen herself, Ariana Grande, and we love the face-framing tendrils that are long enough to touch her collarbones.

The collaboration between the two Colombian artists was definitely momentous and hopefully won’t be the last time we see them gracing our screens together. Enjoy the full video for “TQG” below.

Shakira spoke to ELLE in September about how tough the breakup has been. “Everything is so raw and new,” she said. “I can only say that I put everything I had into this relationship and my family.”

Now that she has had more time to process, Shakira is sharing more of her feelings through her music.

“Last year we were sharing some songs, but for me, music is about connection, and music for me, it’s about to represent something that is real in my life,” she continued. “So there are a lot of songs that I did. Maybe it wasn’t representing something really clear for me so I kept them out of the album. But this one, again, I was feeling something very special because for me it represents a moment in my life, but right now it can represent a moment for her life. So I just called her and I was like, ‘Sorry about me just calling you directly, but I think I have a song. Maybe you’re going to be happy to hear it because I think it represents a moment in your life.’ She was super happy, she loves this song, and everything started happening. We were like, you know what… It was super nice for both of us to share conversation about life and about how she was healing that project, she was feeling that moment. And me as well. So it was like I think this one is very special, and I can’t wait for people to listen to it.”
