Santa Clara businesses and hotels prepare for flood of Taylor Swift fans

As expected, prices for Taylor Swift’s epic ‘Eras Tour’ at Santa Clara, CA’s Levi’s Stadium on July 28-29 have plummeted after the lowest prices were a whopping $1114 before fees on Vivid Seats at the beginning of the week.

Just a mere 96 hours later, last-minute tickets can be picked up for as low as $634 before fees at the time of publication.

That’s nearly $500 (!) in savings.

And not to say “we told you so,” but we told you so, Swifties.

Our team has covered free-falling ‘Eras Tour’ prices almost every week Taylor has been on the road and prices dropping seem to happen like clockwork on night one of Taylor’s multi-night stadium residencies.

“All of this silence and patience, pining in anticipation” as Tay Tay sings in “Dress,” really does pay off.

“Don’t drive. Take public transportation or be dropped off at a specific spot,” said Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor. “Driving to a park-and-ride lot and taking public transit to the concert is the best. It’s a very transit rich area around Levi’s Stadium.”

If you are planning to drive, you need to have a pre-paid parking lot ticket (find them at Levi’s Stadium’s website) to one of the official lots. “You won’t be able to park in the neighborhoods,” Gillmor told SFGATE on the phone. “They’ll be blocking entrances to the neighborhoods, unless you live in the neighborhood.”

The parking lots open at 2 p.m., the stadium gates at 4:30 p.m. and the show begins at 6:30 p.m. Gillmor said The Levi’s Stadium website is the go-to source for all information on the stadium and the concert, including parking, public transit, bag policy and permitted and prohibited items.

If you’re planning to take public transportation, it’s wise to plan and buy tickets tickets ahead. Valley Transit Authority offers light-rail service to and from the show along with several park-and-ride lots. If you’re taking BART, you can connect to VTA at the Milpitas Transit Center. VTA said it will run 30% more light-rail trains than it usually does for a Levi’s Stadium concert. You can buy VTA tickets ahead of the show and find information at vta.org.

Britney Patiu arrived from Modesto with her friends four hours before the gates opened to get to the front of the line. She was among those who burst into cheers once the clock struck 4:30 p.m. and the entrance to the stadium opened.

“It’s exhilarating,” the 23-year-old said. “All this wait was worth it.”

A sense of community prevailed, with Swifties sharing stories and exchanging friendship bracelets, a practice inspired by the lyrics of her song “You’re on Your Own Kid” from her latest album “Midnights” that has become an integral part of the concert experience.

San Jose resident Allison Pan went the extra mile. Looking glamorous in a hot pink sequin dress, modeled after Swift’s outfit in her “ME!” music video, the 15-year-old was carrying an entire binder-ring full of ribbon-tied friendship bracelets with Swift’s lyrics on them. For her, the concert was about more than just entertainment. She said Swift’s music carried her through challenging times.

The parking lot opens at 2 p.m. while gates open at 4:30 p.m. The concert is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Swift has been taking the stage at around 8 p.m. and performing a 45-song setlist for more than three hours at earlier stops on the over 100-date tour. Before Swift takes the stage, Gracie Abrams and HAIM are set to open both Santa Clara shows.

With traffic, delays and road closures expected, fans are encouraged to take public transit. Capitol Corridor is offering promotions and an adjusted schedule to accommodate Northern California concert-goers. Meanwhile, Caltrain will offer an additional post-event train on both nights.

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority is offering 30% more light-rail train cars to its service plan, the most service it has offered for any event hosted at Levi’s Stadium, in anticipation of a record number of passengers.

Fans can connect to BART via VTA at the Milpitas Transit Center. BART and VTA staff will be in communication to ensure passengers can make their connection.

They were the first of hundreds of Swifties who, by mid-morning, were seated in a line that snaked through Green Lot 1 at Levi’s Stadium.

“I thought it was opening at 10 a.m., I got here at 6:30 a.m.,” Jan Ellard explained. “I was supposed to be here around 7 a.m., but I just got on the train early and I’m taking one for the team – for my daughter who’s working today.”
