Houston Rockets at Golden State Warriors odds, picks and predictions

HOUSTON — The Houston Rockets (13-45) will resume their five-game road trip Friday night against the Golden State Warriors (29-30) inside the Chase Center. The Rockets will be short-handed coming out of the All-Star break due to the absence of Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr.

Green sustained a left groin strain injury on Feb. 15 during the Rockets’ 133-96 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Porter will miss his 17th consecutive game following a “freakish accident” against the Sacramento Kings on Jan. 11. Coach Stephen Silas said Porter is still dealing with pain in his left toe despite showing signs of improvement.

Why The Rockets Could Cover The Spread

Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr. are out for tonight to make matters even worse for the Rockets. Those two combine for 41 points as they have pretty much been a majority of the offense all year long for the Rockets. It’s going to take a lot of effort from the reserves tonight if they want a shot at beating the reigning champs.

The team sent Eric Gordon to the Los Angeles Clippers as they have now lost their only true veteran. The team is extremely young and will have a hard time winning games the rest of the season. This is a great time to play through the young frontcourt in Jabari Smith Jr. and Alperen Sengun. Sengun is third on the team averaging 15.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists on 56.2% FG percentage. He has the 17th-best rate in the NBA and has been one of the most improved players this year.

Houston Rockets vs Golden State Warriors Prediction
While I do believe the Warriors cruise to victory, I want to avoid a potential back door as the number has ticked a tad bit too high for my liking. To combat this, I will put the Warriors in a two team moneyline parlay piece. There are a lot of intriguing options to combine them with, but I will go with the New York Knicks as they are also in a must win situation and are going against the Wizards who may be without Bradley Beal.

The Warriors have majorly disappointed this season in what may be the last time we see Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green all together. A big reason for that is their home and road splits, dominating home court while losing in curious ways on the road. Rest on back to backs on the road have played a role in this as Curry and Thompson have dealt with injuries throughout the course of the year.

Those worries are subsided as they return home and go against a hobbled Rockets unit. The Rockets have been in the midst of a free fall throughout the course of the year, firmly in the Victor sweepstakes. Without Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr, the defense takes a hit on the perimeter. This opens up holes for Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson to exploit, bringing back the patented Warriors offensive identity that has propelled them to success.
