The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - How To Unlock The Camera & Take Photos

As soon as Friday began, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom went live around the world.

The sequel to 2017’s Breath of the Wild, a game many have put forward as the best of all time, Tears of the Kingdom has big shoes to fill as familiar hero Link returns to the eminently explorable land of Hyrule. One of the most highly anticipated releases of the year, the latest entry to the nearly 40-year-old franchise boasts a reported 100-plus hours of gameplay and will surely occupy gamers across the world for many weeks to come.

Tears of the Kingdom was released on an otherwise normal Friday workday in Japan, but plenty decided they couldn’t bear to wait any longer.

Many employees have reportedly taken Zeruda yasumi (“Zelda holidays”) — paid vacation days for the express purpose of playing Tears of the Kingdom on its release date. Yahoo Japan even reported that one company president had happily approved his employees’ Zelda-related time off. It may be an indication that when monumentally popular games such as this are released, a significant number of employees will choose playing over working regardless of the circumstances, and companies would rather employees use their legally entitled vacation days instead of watching them play hooky and calling in sick.

Those who aren’t glued to their Switch consoles are deluging Twitter with fanart, links to livestreams and photos of themselves clutching physical copies of “Tiakin” (the preferred Japanese shorthand for Tears of the Kingdom).

Nintendo’s official stores in Tokyo and Osaka are also now selling Tears of the Kingdom-branded wares, including T-shirts, neckties, art booklets and more. Add in an ongoing lottery for Zelda-themed goods at participating Lawson convenience stores across Japan for a full-court merchandising press befitting the launch of Nintendo’s biggest release of the year.

Nevertheless, it would do well for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom fan base to just update their game every time a new patch comes out. Not only does this ensure that they do not experience any issues in the future but also helps Nintendo identify possible problems, if and when they come out as new updates are implemented. Hopefully every update that will be released in the future will be as minor as the day one patch. Since many players are probably already very invested in their playthrough, they would probably not want any more interruptions while playing through the action-RPG.

It is very likely that Nintendo will have more patches for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in the coming days or months. For avid Breath of the Wild fans who prefer to keep updated with the popular franchise, it is best to watch Nintendo’s official channels for any news and updates that will come in the future.

It may be fine for a developer working on Tears of the Kingdom to Ascend into a wrong or broken location, but a player can’t Ascend into an empty world.

“While giving people cheats like this is fun, it takes a lot of time to implement,” Aonuma said. “This is one issue that enjoying this type of gameplay myself may have put into the development process.”

Ascend is just one of Tears of the Kingdom’s four new abilities; the others are Recall, Ultrahand, and Fuse. All four of them actually feel like cheat codes, things that make the player feel like they’re breaking the game. Ascend, for its part, lets players get to places that might otherwise be way out of reach. There are limitations, though — like Aonuma said, don’t expect to get through just any ceiling.
