LONDON (AP) — Tottenham began life without Harry Kane with an entertaining 2-2 draw at Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday, with new manager Ange Postecoglou praising the team’s resilience after a trying week.
All four goals came in an action-filled first half that gave a first indication of what Tottenham will look like under Postecoglou, and without its talismanic striker.
A day after Kane sealed his move to Bayern Munich, Spurs dominated possession and scored from its only two efforts on target in the first half, and yet still had to come from 2-1 down after being undone defensively on a couple of occasions.

Brentford actually went unbeaten without Ivan Toney last season in the Premier League, but it will still feel good to get two goals and a result against a Big Six side as it starts a season knowing its influential center forward is gone until January.
Tottenham started a brand new center back in Micky van de Ven — he arrived within the last week — and a 20-year-old left back in Destiny Udogie in front of Premier League debutant goalkeeper Gugliemo Vicario. Oh, and it was also a PL debut for their boss, Ange Postecoglou, who was managing at far-and-away the most competitive level of his career.
Spurs really controlled this game and will have learned a lot about their players under duress as Cristian Romero had to depart early and the club had to deal with blowing an early lead away from home.
Bryan Mbeumo equalised 15 minutes later from the penalty spot after Son Heung-Min, taking over from Kane as captain, fouled Mathias Jensen.
Son had an otherwise quiet afternoon and was substituted in the second half while striker Richarlison was even less visible.
Brentford were 2-1 up in the 36th after a Yoane Wissa shot went in off defender Micky van de Ven, a new arrival from Wolfsburg.
Tottenham, who said farewell to Kane when the club’s record scorer signed for Bayern Munich on Saturday, then made it 2-2 in first-half stoppage time when Emerson Royal lashed in a pass from Maddison.
Brentford, also missing a main man from last season with England striker Ivan Toney banned until January for 232 breaches of the betting rules, looked lively and proved once again that they are hard to beat at home.
Brentford, who finished ninth last season and one place behind Tottenham, beat Spurs 3-1 in their previous encounter at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium last May, with Kane scoring for the hosts.
