Singer DaniLeigh Arrested for DUI, Hit & Run

American singer, songwriter, dancer, and choreographer DaniLeigh is now facing serious legal trouble following an incident that left her in handcuffs over the holiday weekend.

According to information provided by KPRC’s sister station WPLG, 28-year-old, whose real name is Danielle Leigh Curiel was arrested on a felony hit-and-run charge early Tuesday morning after police accused her of driving drunk and hitting a moped rider on South Beach, dragging the scooter for about a block before officers caught up with her.

Curiel, was born in Miami and now lives in Pembroke Pines. Besides being a recording artist, she’s known for being the ex-girlfriend of rapper DaBaby, with whom she shares a daughter.

A Miami Beach Police Department arrest report stated that just after midnight, Curiel was driving a Mercedes-Benz G550, commonly known as a G-Wagen, and that she was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic.

Multiple people attempted to get DaniLeigh’s attention to let her know she was “dragging the moped,” but she didn’t stop, according to the report.

The unnamed moped driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries, including a spinal fracture and a kidney laceration, and was transported to a Miami hospital.

Police tried to pull over the 28-year-old singer, but she refused to stop at first, the report said. After the officer honked multiple times, she pulled over; police observed sluggish responses from DaniLeigh and reported they could smell alcohol, also noting that the passenger in the car seemed intoxicated.

Both DaniLeigh and her passenger were detained by police, who noted in the arrest report that the car was damaged, pointing to a possible crash. DaniLeigh told officers that she had been driving from a Memorial Day party and did not hit a motorist, also denying consuming any alcohol.

She agreed to take field sobriety tests, which she failed, according to the report. Her blood alcohol concentration level at the police station registered at 0.145 and 0.148 in two tests, almost twice the legal limit of .08 in Florida.

Police said Curiel then hit the moped rider near 11th Street and continued on without stopping or slowing down. The crash happened just outside Miami Beach police headquarters.

An officer later pulled Curiel over near 16th Street after she initially refused to stop, police said. The report states her SUV smelled of alcohol and she had “sluggish” motor skills.

Police said Curiel, who said she was coming back from a Memorial Day party, told officers she that she “never hit” anyone and hadn’t consumed any alcohol.

According to police, a breathalyzer test told a different story. Two breath tests came back at 0.145% and 0.148%, nearly twice the legal limit.

The report states officers later found an empty bottle of Don Julio 1942 tequila in the car.

The moped rider survived but suffered a kidney laceration and a spinal fracture, the report states.

Aside from the felony hit-and-run charge, Curiel faced two drunken driving citations. She was no longer listed in Miami-Dade jail records as of Tuesday afternoon.

She was given a field sobriety test, which the report states she “failed to perform to the standard,” and was then arrested. She was later given two breath tests, according to the affidavit. The first breath sample came back with a breath alcohol level of 0.145, and the second at 0.148; anything 0.08 and above is considered impaired, according to Florida’s Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

Curiel was booked on three felony charges: leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury, driving under the influence, and damage to property or person.

The driver of the moped was transported to a trauma center. According to the police affidavit, the moped driver suffered a kidney laceration and a spinal fracture, with the report noting that they were “non-life-threatening injuries.”
