Blue Beetle trailer gives the DC superhero a buster sword!– OnMyWay Mobile App User News

Filming has wrapped on the film that will see Maridueña bringing the fan-favorite character of Jaime Reyes to the big screen. Angel Manuel Soto directed the film from a script by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer.

The first two incarnations of Blue Beetle were crimefighters that relied on various gadgets. The second version was a Charlton Comics character that was eventually purchased by DC Comics and served as the inspiration for the Nite Owl character in the Watchmen series. The Reyes version differs significantly from those versions as he gains his powers from an alien scarab he bonded with that encases him in a suit of armor.

Fans have long awaited a glimpse of the upcoming film after the concept of the alien battle suit was revealed at DC FanDome in 2021. In May 2022, pictures and videos of Maridueña wearing the costume surfaced on the internet.

While the movie was initially going to premiere exclusively on HBO Max, the company announced in December 2021 that it was skipping the streaming service and going straight to theaters. “Blue Beetle” is DC’s first-ever Latino superhero getting his own film, so giving it time to shine on the big screen is a significant move.

“What We Do in the Shadows” star Harvey Guillén also joined the cast, plus Susan Sarandon portrays the main villain, Victoria Kord. (In the comics, she’s the sister of the previous owner of the Blue Beetle scarab, Ted Kord.)

Angel Manuel Soto, best known for helming 2020’s “Charm City Kings,” directs “Blue Beetle” from a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer. The film was originally developed as an HBO Max original film, alongside the now-shelved “Batgirl,” but Warner Bros. shifted the project to a theatrical release last year prior to James Gunn and Peter Safran becoming co-CEOs of DC Studios. “Blue Beetle” is currently scheduled to release on Aug. 18.

WHO IS BLUE BEETLE?
There are multiple answers to that question, because Blue Beetle is one of DC Comics’ “legacy” characters, where writers have introduced younger, more modern characters who take on the mantle of their predecessor. The first Blue Beetle was a war-time superhero, a police officer who donned bulletproof armor and took a sci-fi vitamin supplement to moonlight as a vigilante. The second was Ted Kord, a genius inventor and self-made industrialist who styled himself as a wise-cracking superhero out of love for the Justice League and their good deeds.

The third hero, and the star of Blue Beetle, directed by Puerto Rican filmmaker Angel Manuel Soto (Charm City Kings), is Jamie, who gets his wild powers and an even wilder, bug-legged suit from an ancient piece of technology built by an alien race called the Reach. In the form of a blue, metal scarab, the device bonds with Jamie, introducing itself as Khaji Da and bestowing him Iron Man-style powers. The only catch is that Jaime can’t take the scarab off; he can only shrink it down to scarab-size and hide it on his back. Also, he and Khaji Da don’t always agree on the best course of superhero action.
