Plan Your Memorial Day Shopping: Which Stores Are Open and Which Are Closed in 2023

The federal holiday is also considered by many to herald the start of summer, and the long weekend provides the perfect opportunity to make that first beach excursion.

Whether you decide to go on a road trip, hold a barbecue cookout with friends and family, or simply relax at home, it is likely that you will be needing some supplies. Some stores will be closed for business on Memorial Day like Costco, which is closed on this holiday every year, but those that will be open might be offering attractive sales.

Are banks open on Memorial Day 2023?
Memorial Day is a bank holiday, meaning all branches will be closed. ATM machines, as always, are available if you need to get cash or make a deposit into your account, however. And, of course, many operations can be done online or with your bank’s app.

Is the post office open on Memorial Day 2023?
Don’t bother checking the mailbox. Memorial Day is a federal holiday, so the U.S. Postal Service is closed, and no mail delivery will take place. UPS and FedEx also observe the holiday, though UPS Express Critical and FedEx Custom Critical are still available. FedEx will suspend Express service the Sunday before Memorial Day and Ground, Ground Economy and Freight service for the two day before the holiday. Select FedEx Office stores will be open, but have modified hours.

For those with camping or gardening plans, Home Depot and Lowe’s stores will also be open. Both chains will offer special savings to customers, including discounts on select items such as mulch, grills, and patio furniture.

In addition, major retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Macy’s are also open on Memorial Day. Shoppers can expect to find a variety of deals on clothing, electronics, and home goods.

With all the excitement and preparations leading up to Memorial Day, it can be easy to forget the importance of the holiday. Take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices of the brave men and women who have died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. And if you know anyone who has lost a loved one in military service, be sure to thank them for their sacrifice and support.

Whether you spend the day shopping, grilling, or simply enjoying the company of family and friends, make sure to take a moment to remember those who have given their lives for our freedom. Happy Memorial Day!
