‘No-brainer’ – Alfie Devine opens up on signing new long-term Spurs deal!– OnMyWay Mobile App User News

Tottenham Hotspur starlet Alfie Devine has committed to a new long-term deal with the club, and the young midfielder has now opened up on his decision to sign the contract.

Devine is considered one of the brightest young prospects at Spurs. The 18-year-old joined the Tottenham academy in 2020 and has developed quickly through the youth teams.

He was handed his first team debut in the FA Cup against Marine in January 2021. Devine scored in that game to become the club’s youngest ever goalscorer and the youngest player to ever represent the Spurs first team (Alasdair Gold).

The youngster also impressed for England during the U19 European Championship campaign in the summer. Devine scored a wonderful goal and provided two assists in that tournament (Transfermarkt) as England took home the trophy.

His new contract at Tottenham will run until 2027 and is a strong signal of intent from the club to keep hold of such a highly rated youth player.

In an interview with SpursOfficial, Devine spoke about his decision to commit his future to the club.

He said: “Coming here every day, it’s obviously a privilege. The facilities that we have here, along with the coaching staff on the first team side and the academy side, is the best you can get.”

On his record as the youngest ever Spurs goalscorer, Devine added: “When it happened, it took a few days to settle in, but I’m very proud to have that to my name.

“Playing games, no matter what age group it is, if I go up [to the first team] and train it’s about getting experience from that and learning from it. See where it takes me.”

“When I look up to players it’s more positionally based. So Pierre [Hojbjerg], Bissouma coming in, Bentancur. The midfielders when I go up there I learn a lot from. Especially the new boys that came in, adding them [to the squad] has made it even better.

“The fans here at Spurs are incredible. No matter what age group, they’re always supportive. It’s a very proud moment for me and my family. I think it was sort of a no-brainer to sign [the new contract].”

Spurs Web Opinion

It was important to secure the long-term future of Alfie Devine and ensure no other clubs came sniffing around. If the talented youngster can continue his development effectively at Spurs, there’s no reason why he can’t go right to the very top with the club.

The fact he hasn’t gone out on loan this season suggests he has a job to do for the youth team, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see him show up in the first team at some point in either of the domestic cup competitions.
