Tennessee Reaches 4,500 Distracted Driving Crashes In 2021

Tennessee Highway Patrol is stepping up enforcement along I-840. The goal was to put an end to distracted driving. Talking on the phone, texting, eating is just a few of the behaviors that contribute to crashes each year.

According to Tennessee’s crash data, more than 4,500 crashes were caused by a distracted driver in 2021 at the end of March.

The number continues trending upward, totaling more than 241,000 distracted driver crashes since 2010.

Researchers found the average driver in Nashville sits in traffic congestion for 15 hours per year, which costs the driver an estimated $220.

Drivers across the country saw reductions in the number of travelers during the pandemic, but it varied greatly depending on lockdowns in impacted cities.
